Daniel Litvin: Greater industry leadership is needed on climate change

At a panel discussion titled ‘The Energy Transition: Corporate Adaptation Strategies’, held at the Atlantic Council Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi, Critical Resource Founder and Managing Director Daniel Litvin argues that oil and gas companies’ license-to-operate challenges will only become more acute in the face of climate change, and urges the industry to take greater leadership.

The panel discussed the findings of the Atlantic Council’s new Issue Brief ‘Navigating the Energy Transition: International Oil Company Diversification Strategies’ and addressed the critical questions of how international and national oil and gas companies can integrate low-carbon assets into their portfolios; whether their current efforts are ambitious enough; and what the risks of going too fast – or too slowly – can be.

The other panellists were:

  • Todd Glass, Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati
  • David Koranyi, Senior Fellow for Energy Diplomacy at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center
  • Jerome Schmitt, Senior Vice President Innovation & Energy Efficiency at Total and Chair of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative’s Executive Committee
